JSC is what you might call “detail-oriented.” Maybe that’s an understatement. We’re all about the little things you see when you pick up a charm and the even littler things you see after you’ve been wearing it for months! While you probably can spot the Eiffel Tower or New York City skyline a mile away, there are tons of other obscure signs and symbols just waiting to be discovered that tell the inside story of destinations near and far. Get up close and personal with some of our favorite not-so-obvious features you’ll find on JSC Luggage Tags   1. SIGHTSEEING  The must-see stops and landmarks you see on your insider bus or walking tour.   At nearly 40 feet high, it’s hard to miss Koh Samui’s golden Big Buddha shrine IRL. Widely known as the “Portland Oregon Sign," this bright beacon of the White Stag Building illuminates the downtown area. The Walnut Street Bridge in Chattanooga keeps people connected! It’s one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. Siem Reap's Angkor Wat means the “City of Temples” and it’s not just a catchy name! Over 400 acres and 9 centuries old. Wow! Love the LOVE statue in Philly’s LOVE Park? We  love it, too!   2. LOREThe myths, legends, and folktales that makes everything so much more magical.   Ever heard a thunder clap so loud it could be a dragon’s roar? So goes the Bhutanese myth that gave birth to the Thunder Dragon known as a “Thunder Druk.” Your entrée might just save your life one day. A popular Portuguese folk tale tells the story of a wrongly accused man proven innocent when a roasted rooster begins to crow. It’s canary like Canariae as in dogs not birds. It’s said that early inhabitants of the Canary Islands once worshipped dogs which were pretty massive and pretty much everywhere.   3. OFFICIAL LANGUAGEYou can talk the talk when you know the local language.   The official language of Cambodia is Khmer spoken by 16 million people and named after an empire of yesteryear. Spoken by the Sinhalese people of Sri Lanka, Sinhala is a 58 letter language that sounds as beautiful as it looks. Maka Goemcho mog asa! That means “I love Goa" in the Indian state’s official language, Konkani.    4. THE ARTS Give props to the creative things these destinations are famous for.    It should come as no surprise that New Orleans, Louisiana is the birthplace of both jazz and trumpet-player extraordinaire, Louis Armstrong himself! Cinephiles flock to the French Riviera each year for the Cannes Film Festival--one of the top film festivals on the planet. Luggage tags, but make it fashion! This pair of pumps gives a nod to Milan's claim to fame as the global capital of fashion and design. One charm to rule them all! True Tolkien fans know the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed right here in Auckland, New Zealand.   5. NATURE Be one with nature and all the unique plants and animals it has to offer.   There’s only one place in the whole wide world where you can find lemurs in the wild and that’s the island of Madagascar.  The Coconut Palm is found everywhere and in everything in the Maldives including food, medicine, fashion, furniture, art, and more. Talk about multipurpose! The five petaled hibiscus is the state flower for Hawaii and says a lot more than you may think according to local tradition! When you wear the flower behind the left ear, it  means you’re taken. Behind the right means you're looking for love. Another super exclusive, the silver fern is found only in New Zealand. For the Māori people, the fern stands for strength, peace, and always finding your way back home.     6. SYMBOLS Those little things are everywhere but what do they really mean?   The Giglio of Florence is, you guessed it, a stylized iris flower and it’s become pretty much synonymous with the city itself. Knot all Irish symbols are the same! The Celtic love knot is a series of interlaced links and is exchanged between couples. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the German Bundesadler. Known as the Federal Eagle, it’s the centerpiece of the oldest coat of arms in Europe going back to the time of the Holy Roman Empire. 

THE ULTIMATE ROYAL WEDDING SOUVENIR LIST FROM JET SET CANDY Here at Jet Set Candy, we love chic souvenirs, especially British Souvenirs. And Royal Weddings. And Meghan & Harry. We love that this set of four spoons is gold and a little bit fancy too (make that posh!).   2. MILK CHOCOLATE BAR FROM LIBERTY LONDON   Liberty London is one of my all time favorite stores and a trip to London doesn’t feel complete without a stop there. While this London souvenir isn’t specific to the Royal Wedding, it does feature something quintessentially British (and Royal): a Queen’s Guard. I’ve always said I like tall guys. ; )   3. ROYAL WEDDING TEA TOWEL: FLAGS & FLOWERS   Isn’t this tea towel so fun? As an American, I would call it a “dish towel” but tea towel sounds so much lovelier, doesn’t it?! Love the hand-made style and the flowers and the American Flag paired with the Union Jack. This is the ultimate souvenir for any Anglophile American who is thrilled that one of our own will now get to call themselves a British Royal, myself included. I definitely plan on adding this dishtea towel to my kitchen.   4. MARRY BRITISH ROYALTY SPINNER CHARM FROM JET SET CANDY    Fancy your chances with Prince Harry? Got eyes for a duke? This movable charm is incredibly versatile and looks equally great on a charm bracelet or a charm necklace and can be layered with other travel charms from England or from elsewhere in the world! : )   5. MILLY GREEN HARRY & MEGHAN ROYAL WEDDING APRON   How adorable is this limited edition apron from Milly Green? This apron was designed to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and is the perfect souvenir for any royal-lover who loves to cook. Milly Green is a British designer with a style and sensibility that is quintessentially British (and quirky!).   6. ROYAL WEDDING SOUVENIRS MUG FROM HARRODS   We love this Harry & Meghan Mug from Harrods and the fact that it has the date of the Royal Wedding included in the artwork (May 19th, 2018 in case you’ve been living under a rock!).  Now every morning  you can be transported back to Windsor Castle while having your coffeetea from this fun mug. It’ll also double as the picture-perfect prop for your selfie if you #doitforthegram. Royals are probably not normally associated with drinking from mugs but we like to think that Meghan & Harry are in fact “just like us”…he did propose over a roast chicken dinner after all!   7. HARRY & MEGHAN'S WEDDING RINGS COMMEMORATIVE BREAKFAST CEREAL   I die. This is probably the wackiest Royal Wedding Souvenir I’ve come across which is exactly why I love it so much. Is spending $56 dollars on a box of cereal slightly insane? Absolutely. But this concept is just so out there and hilarious that I couldn’t resist.  I really hope that the creator of the Wedding Rings Cereal gets it into Meghan’s and Harry’s hands and that they put out pictures of themselves eating their own cereal. So meta. So 2018. They clearly do have a sense of humor about themselves so fingers crossed…!   8. ROYAL WEDDING LUXE BISCUIT TIN FROM BISCUITEERS   I need this cookie tin in my life. These cookies are so adorable and the best part is that once you’ve eaten them all you will still get to keep this adorable commemorative royal wedding biscuit tin as a lasting souvenir. The cookies feature all sorts of fun royal wedding motifs, including Queen’s Guards, Harry’s & Meghan’s wedding attire, the Royal Carriage, and many other fun symbols that will no doubt be part of the pomp and circumstance that marks the day and makes it memorable.

Since we’re celebrating all things British and royal this week in honor of Meghan and Harry’s forthcoming Royal Wedding at Windsor Castle, we thought it would be fun to feature some of our favorite travel charms from our British and London charm collection. I love England and have been many times so it is no surprise that we included many London charms and also charms for the United Kingdom when we launched our travel charm collection back in October 2014. Below is a British charm bracelet featuring a variety of travel charms for both London as well as charms representing the U.K. 1. MARMITE CHARM (A.K.A. CHARMITE)   I have to say that this is probably one of my favorite pieces not just for our British charms but for the entire Jet Set Candy travel charm collection—and I’m not even an avid Marmite eater! My personal favorite charms are often the most quirky charms and this one is quite quirky. For all of the non-Brits reading this, if you aren’t familiar, Marmite is a savory spread often consumed at breakfast and is a national obsession in U.K. Many Brits (maybe most) grow up with a jar of Marmite on their breakfast table so this iconic staple resonates with many. Australia has a similar but different spread called Vegemite and Aussies are passionate about Vegemite the way Brits are passionate about Marmite (I’m married to one so I can confirm this!). So I designed the Charmite charm as our tribute to this British favorite because Marmite is so inherently British. It made me start thinking of quintessential British traits and characteristics which I then incorporated into the very tiny Ingredient List etched in the back of the charm (this is a very detailed charm!). The ingredients listed on the back of our two-tone sterling silver and gold vermeil Marmite charm are: 100% British Ingredients: dry humour, dash of quirk, dollop of wit, touch of cheekiness, properness, pomp & circumstance  While I would normally hesitate to generalize so broadly, the Brits as a whole are known for having a great sense of humor so I took a risk and included the “ingredient list” …plus it was crafted out of nothing but love and admiration. Brits I’ve chatted with who have purchased this charm seem to get a kick out of the list of British traits when I read them off to them. P.S. Note the British spelling of “humour”…it’s all about the details! Meghan Markle was quizzed on her knowledge of all things British a while back and she flubbed her answer regarding Marmite (mistaking it for Vegemite, whoops!). By now I’m sure she’s well aware of Marmite’s place in Britain’s national fabric so I really think Meghan needs this charm to symbolize her new place in Britain as well! 2. BRITISH CANDY CHARM If you're British, you’ll almost certainly be familiar with British Smarties, candies that are kind of like over-sized M&Ms and are very different from American Smarties (which are a chalky type of sugar candy). Our British Smarties Candy Charm is one of our most intricate charms that opens (we call these movable charms by the way). Inside the sterling silver (or gold vermeil) tube are seven different colors of enamel Smarties—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and pink. Each enameled delight is joined to the next via a small, chain link.  This charm is so fun and can be worn on either a charm bracelet or a charm necklace (in fact, I actually love wearing it open with the enamel “candy” pieces hanging out of the metal tube).    3. MARRY BRITISH ROYALTY SPINNER CHARM I go into more detail about this British Charm over hereThis too is a fave charm of mine (again because it’s so so quirky) and has been covered by the Daily Mail, Carly Heitlinger, Vanity Fair, and others. I’m truly sad that we are going to be retiring this version since the charm has Prince Harry as one of the options for “Future Husband” and he will be off the market after Saturday. This charm counts as a Royal Wedding Souvenir IMO so if you are thinking of treating yourself to only one souvenir then probably start soon since time is running out to buy it! 4. LONDON TAXI CHARM     London has its own unique style and London just wouldn’t be the same without the black London Cabs and the great London Cabbies who drive them. Our London taxi charm has moving wheels and a ton of detail...the license plate even says “London” on it!   5. LONDON LHR LUGGAGE TAG CHARM  Our luggage tag charms feature airport codes on them and are a great place to start when you are beginning your travel charm collection. This London charm features the airport code for Heathrow, the largest airport in London and also has the Union Jack (British Flag) engraved on it. This airport tag charm looks equally great on a charm necklace or on a charm bracelet. Because our charm bracelets feature links that open for instant attachment you can sometimes wear your travel charms as a charm necklace or sometimes on a charm bracelet.   All of our travel charms (meaning all of our charms since everything we offer is related to travel) feature slightly oversized jump rings so they can fit on to our chains as well as most chains from other brands. We love our chains and they feature our adorable signature tiny airplane charm but if you already own a chain then our charms will likely fit on them too. 6. LONDON IS MY CUP OF TEA CHARM   There are other tea charms on the market but we think ours is the cutest, not to mention the most detailed. And, as we mentioned before, there is nothing more British than tea. If you have been looking for the perfect tea charm to add to your travel charm collection then look no further.  The Jet Set Candy London Tea Cup charm features a matching cup and scallop-edged saucer with an attached, miniature spoon (it’s so so cute). You’ll find the words “London is My Cup of Tea” engraved on the saucer’s underside.   7. DOUBLE BOBBY POLICE HAT CHARM This is the perfect charm for the Anglophile who has pretty much every other British charm out there. The sleek design looks great on it’s own or layered with other charms on a charm necklace.   Police in Britain are nicknamed “Bobbies” and are rarely seen without their familiar conical helmets. Our London Double Bobby Police Hat Charm represents two inverted replicas using 925 solid sterling silver and 14k vermeil gold.   8. INFINITY CHARM BRACELET  If you only buy one charm bracelet in your life it should be this link bracelet. Every link in our Infinity Charm Bracelet has a spring hinge that opens so you can instantly attach your Jet Set Candy travel charms (or any other charms for that matter). Because you can move around your charms, you can change up your stories and also sometimes move the charms off the bracelet and add to a chain to make a chain necklace.
