You say summer, we hear “events, events, events.” From music to theater, food, comedy, and the ones that simply defy explanation, summer’s got events in every city, on every continent, for everybody. Don’t think we have a charm for each and every one of them? Established in 1947, this festival has been a platform for emerging talents and established stars alike. This year’s festivities kick off August 4th and last through the 28th. And the theme? Expect to see the hashtag “FillYerBoots” pretty much everywhere meaning “to get as much of something valuable or desirable as you can.” We intend to.   Image courtesy of @edfringe   La Tomatina   If you're up for a truly messy and exhilarating experience, head to Buñol, Spain, a little town outside of Valencia for the annual La Tomatina event. Picture this: thousands of people in the streets, armed with tomatoes, ready to engage in an epic food fight. Yes, you read that right! La Tomatina is all about embracing your inner child, letting loose, and throwing tomatoes at everyone around you. Originating from some silly shenanigans in 1945, this quirky event has become a symbol of fun and excitement for adults, kids, and tour groups. The last Wednesday in August, the 30th this year, is the day when Buñol turns into a tomato battlefield, leaving participants covered head to toe in red pulp. It’s happening at the Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival in Tokyo, Japan. This centuries-old tradition (we’re talking like 1700s) brings together locals and visitors to witness a spectacular display of fireworks lighting up the night sky. Held annually on the last Saturday in July, that’s the 29th this year, this event traces its roots back to the Edo period, making it one of Tokyo's most cherished cultural celebrations. And the district itself where the festival takes place feels like a bit of a time capsule with Old Tokyo vibes and what remains of what was once the entertainment capital. Get ready for the glitz and glamor of the Venice International Film Festival, the oldest film festival in the world. Established in 1932, this prestigious event celebrates the art of cinema and attracts A-list celebrities, acclaimed directors, and film enthusiasts from around the globe. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice's historic architecture and winding canals, this festival offers a unique blend of red carpet premieres, thought-provoking documentaries, and avant-garde cinematic masterpieces. Scheduled for August 30th through September 9th this year, the 80th edition promises to be a star-studded affair you won't want to miss. This annual gathering of creative souls will appear in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada this year from August 27th through September 4th. Since the first event in 1986, Burning Man is all about self-expression, art installations, sustainability, and radical self-reliance and just happens to come with a survival guide. Desert living is no joke! Participants come together to create a temporary city filled with outlandish costumes, larger-than-life interactive sculptures, and mind-expanding performances. This year, the theme is Animalia which is sure to inspire a fair share of costumes and art pieces. Burning Man is a  truly transformative experience where you can let go of societal norms, embrace your wild side, and connect with like-minded individuals. Image courtesy @burningman     Just for Laughs   Laughing until your stomach hurts is on the menu at Just for Laughs, provoking merriment annually in Montreal, Quebec. This comedy extravaganza is the largest international comedy festival in the world, showcasing some of the funniest acts and stand-up comedians from across the globe. From hilarious street performances to side-splitting stand-up shows, Just for Laughs is a non-stop giggle fest. Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness will be gracing the stage this year along with must-see names like Ali Wong, Leslie Jones, and Eddie Izzard. Established in 1983, the festival has become synonymous with laughter and good times and, of course, a new way to explore the sights and sounds of Montreal.
